ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: to carry out the cross-cultural validation of the instrument "Child Adolescent Teasing Scale" for the Colombian student population. Method: methodological study carried out with students aged 8 to 15, from public and private educational institutions in the municipality of Ibagué, Colombia. The form for the characterization of students and the Child Adolescent Teasing Scale were used. Results: the cross-cultural adaptation process was organized in seven steps: comparison of the Spanish version of the instrument with the original English version, back-translation, consensus version, face validity and terminology adjustment by students, face and content validity by experts, assessment committee for the final version, pilot test and reliability. Conclusion: the version adapted to the Spanish spoken in Colombia of the Child Adolescent Teasing Scale (Escala de burlas para niños y adolescentes), which assesses the frequency and distress caused by teasing, showed desirable results in terms of validity and reliability.


RESUMO Objetivo: realizar a validação transcultural do instrumento "Child Adolescent Teasing Scale" para a população de estudantes colombianos. Método: estudo metodológico com estudantes de 8 a 15 anos, de instituições educacionais públicas e privadas de Ibagué, Colômbia. Utilizou-se o formulário de caracterização e a "Child Adolescent Teasing Scale". Resultados: o processo de adaptação transcultural foi organizado em sete etapas: comparação da versão em espanhol do instrumento com a versão original em inglês, retrotradução, versão consenso, validade facial e adaptação da terminologia pelos estudantes, validade facial e de conteúdo por especialistas, comissão de avaliação para a versão final, teste piloto e confiabilidade. Conclusão: a versão adaptada ao espanhol usado na Colômbia da "Child Adolescent Teasing Scale" (Escala de zombarias para crianças e adolescentes), que mede a frequência e o incômodo devido às zombarias, mostrou resultados recomendáveis em termos de validade e confiabilidade.

Método: estudio metodológico con escolares de 8 a 15 años, de instituciones educativas públicas y privadas de Ibagué, Colombia. Se usó la ficha de caracterización y el Child Adolescent Teasing Scale. Resultados: el proceso de adaptación transcultural se organizó en siete etapas: comparación de la versión en español del instrumento con la versión original en inglés, retrotraducción, versión consenso, validez facial y adaptación al lenguaje por escolares, validez facial y de contenido por expertos, comité de evaluación para la versión final, prueba piloto y confiabilidad. Conclusión: la versión adaptada al español usado en Colombia del Child Adolescent Teasing Scale (Escala de burlas para niños y adolescentes), que mide frecuencia y molestia por las burlas, mostró resultados recomendables de validez y confiabilidad.

ABSTRACT

We herein describe Florence Nightingale's life and work. She is considered one of the pioneers in nursing practice. Her greatest success was during the Crimean war when, along with 38 voluntary nurses, she cleaned and refurbished the hospital in Scutari and reduced the mortality rate from 40 to 2 percent. She used to make rounds at night in the wards under the light of a lamp, and therefore she was named "The Lady with the Lamp". Queen Victory gave her the Royal Red Cross and she was the first woman who was honored with the Order of Merit in 1907. She had solid knowledge on Statistics and Mathematics which were useful for her nursing job.

ABSTRACT

The objectives of this study were to determine the agreement between the ear examination findings of the otorhinolaryngologist (trainer) and the elementary school nurse (trainee) after training with the use of a penlight and to determine the mean sound pressure level (SPL) produced by school nurses as a standard parameter for hearing screening using a 512 tuning fork after training on tuning fork testing by the otorhinolaryngologist. Training workshops in ear examination using a penlight and hearing screening using a 512 tuning fork were conducted for school nurses. Data for assessment of ear examination skills and production of SPL were collected by questionnaire and observation of performance. Kappa statistics were used to assess agreement between trainees' and trainer's responses. Mean and standard deviation were determined for the assessment of the SPL produced. Results showed an excellent agreement between the school nurses' and otorhinolaryngologist's observations on ear examination. These included observations of the ear canal, visualization of the tympanic membrane and identification of unusual findings such as wax and discharge. The majority of nurses responded positively in terms of the ease and confidence in performance of the procedure. Regarding tuning fork testing, the nurses were able to produce significant SPL. The mean SPL produced by the nurses using a 512 tuning fork was 56.316 dB.

ABSTRACT

Pain defines as unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Many factors may distort the nurses' perception of children's pain which creates an intense need for assessing nurses' perception and management of children during post operative pain. This study aims to identify nurses' perception and management practices of children's pain after abdominal surgery. The study was conducted at the Pediatric Surgery Department at Tanta University Hospitals and Surgery Department at Damanhour National Medical Institution. Convenient sample of 90 nurses working with school age children with post abdominal surgery pain. Two tools were used to collect the necessary data. The first tool was a questionnaire sheet, which included demographic data In addition questions for assessment of nurses' perception of children's postoperative, methods used for assessment and management of children's pain. The second tool was observation checklists to assess nurses' identification of behavioral clauses of pain, nurses' performances during assessment of pain intensity and during management of post operative pain in children by pharmacological and non pharmacological measures. The present study revealed that the nurses' perception of children's postoperative pain is lacking and inadequate for providing effective nursing care for children during pain experience and children were poorly managed for postoperative pain in the studied hospitals. It can be concluded that nurses did not play any role in the decision regarding pain management just they were carrying out the physician's prescriptions. The study recommended in service training and continuing education should be provided for all nursing personnel working in the pediatric surgical department

ABSTRACT

O estudo objetiva elaborar e testar um Programa de Educaçäo Sexual para Adolescentes. Foram selecionadas duas turmas de escolares, adolescentes, de 1§ Grau, controlados quanto ao comportamento de entrada por um teste diagnóstico, submetidos a tratamento e testados logo após. O estudo conclue que os jovens estäo pouco informados quanto a sua sexualidade, tem grande expectativa, discutem e säo receptivos a informacöes sobre o assunto. Os resultados conduzem a um enfoque muldisciplinar com participaçäo ativa da enfermeira escolar. Sugere-se que o Programa abranja as área biopsicossociais e seja baseado nos resultados do diagnóstico das necessidades dos educandos.

ABSTRACT

Neste estudo säo apresentados alguns aspectos da assistência de saúde ao escolar através dos tempos. Atualmente, profissionais de saúde estäo voltados para a saúde escolar e todos tentam de alguma forma desempenhar o seu papel contribuindo para transformar os escolares em cidaäos úteis e capazes. A enfermagem de há muito tempo despertou seu interesse para melhorar as condiçöes de vida do escolar. Na literatura consultada verificamos que a enfermeira, em alguns países da Europa e Estados Unidos, faz parte integrante do Sistema Escolar, e esta atividade é oficializada pelo governo. No Brasil, embora exista uma lei que coloca a enfermeira no sistema escolar, näo encontramos nenhuma atividade de enfermagem oficializada e próprias das Secretarias de Educaçäo dos diversos setores da Uniäo. O objetivo deste ensaio é mostrar a importância da assistência de enfermagem dentro do sistema escolar

ABSTRACT

A desnutriçäo constitui a primeira causa de morte na infância, quer como causa básica ou associada. Deve ser vista também em termos de sobreviventes e danos que advém a saúde. É grande o contingente populacional de pré-escolares e escolares que sobrevivem num estado crônico de subnutriçäo ou desnutriçäo. Açöes de saúde tomadas visando estas crianças devem ser precedidas de um exame simplificado, realizado pela enfermeira, permitindo um diagnóstico de toda a populaçäo. Neste estado a enfermeira baseou-se para o diagnóstico das crianças nos valores de peso, estatura e aplicaçäo da fita de Shakir. A populaçäo constitui-se de 86 escolares de uma escola situada em zona peri-urbana da cidade de Ribeiräo Preto. Diagnosticou-se subnutriçäo em 80,71% da populaçäo. As açöes de enfermagem visando estas crianças foram a de incentivo a direçäo da escola e aos órgäos governamentais a fim de que a populaçäo em pauta tivesse elevado o padräo de alimentaçäo. Paralelamente efetuou-se tratamento para pediculose, aplicaçäo de vacinas, pequenos curativos e encaminhamento de 5 crianças a Instituiçöes de Saúde para prosseguirem tratamento anteriormente abandonados
